Co-Washing: Should You Be Ditching Shampoo?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2015

Many people who come in to see us at Lindsay Griffin Boston are surprised to learn that several of our stylists don’t wash their hair every day, or even every other day. Some people may be a little appalled at the idea of ditching their daily or bi-daily shampoo, but depending on your hair type, it could be the way to go.

Entering co-washing. C0-washing is an abbreviated way of saying “conditioner washing,” meaning that you are washing only with a conditioner and foregoing the daily shampoo.

So what hair types benefit the most from co-washing? Generally, those with wavy or curly, thick, or dry hair will see the best results from washing with conditioner. Textured hair types tend to be dryer, because oil from the scalp are not able to travel all of the twists and turns of the hair strand like they can on straight or thin hair. However, this doesn’t mean that straight and thin hair types can’t co-wash too. It is simply recommended that they continue to shampoo every other day, or every three days, and co-wash on the days in between. Experts recommend that for those who are thinking of trying co-washing more often than not, add in a clarifying shampoo once weekly to get rid of build up that may occur on the scalp.

While co-washing can be great for those who want to stop stripping the natural oils from their hair, it is advised that those who have scalp conditions such a dermatitis should continue to use a daily shampoo, as stopping that regimen could make the condition worse.

We’ve put together a list of the conditioners that we carry, by hair type, that will help you get the benefit of co-washing:

Kevin.Murphy Luxury Rinse
Davines LOVE Curl Conditioner

Frizzy or Thick
Davines LOVE Smooth Conditioner
Kevin.Murphy Luxury Rinse

Davines Dede ConditionerKevin.Murphy Angel Rinse

Brittle/Over-Processed or Aging
Davines Nou Nou Conditioner
Kevin.Murphy Young Again Rinse [More specifically for aging, dull hair]

Color Treated
Davines Minu Conditioner

Kevin.Murphy Hydrate Me Conditioner
Davines Melu Conditioner [More specifically for long or damaged hair]
Davines Momo Conditioner

Also, the two clarifying shampoos we carry carry here at Lindsay Griffin Boston are the Kevin.Murphy Maxi Wash, and Davines Solu Shampoo, both created as a clarifying wash to get rid of buildup on the scalp and hair.

Feel free to stop by and visit us to find out if co-washing could benefit your hair, and what we recommend for you to use as a conditioner!

Four Revolutionary Hair Tools You Might Need to Try

Saturday, October 3rd, 2015

There has been a huge surge in the hair styling revolution as of late, and many of these tools and tricks are just too cool to pass up. We’ve collected the best four of these new products and lined them up here for you to check out!

1. Amika Switch Kit™ Starter Kit
Starts at $100.00

This curling iron has not only one barrel size, but FOUR interchangeable barrel options to completely customize your curling iron. The base model with a 1-inch barrel starts at $100, and each additional barrel runs at $30. MARSALA & Beauty: How PANTONE’s 2015 Color of the Year Can Be Your Color Too

Wednesday, September 30th, 2015

PANTONE has recently released their Color of the Year for 2015, and the winner is… MARSALA

Marsala_wallpaper_Pantone_Color_of_the_Year_2015-2048x1536                                                                                         Photo: PANTONE

Marsala (Pantone 18-1438) is a deep red hue that is reminiscent of the wine that inspired its name. The experts at PANTONE deem this color as a “natural fit for the kitchen and dining room,” and beauty writers at Allure Magazine call the hue “universally flattering.”

If you don’t know the history of the PANTONE Color of the Year, here’s a brief run down. PANTONE began choosing a color of the year in 2000, and has chosen a new color sequentially each year since. PANTONE’s color of that year then serves as inspiration for a number of color trends and industries: interior design, makeup and beauty, graphic design, fashion, and much more.

Here are a few beauty products in Marsala shades that are flawless for fall, and flattering for all:

Essie – “A-List

A perfect Marsala-esque nail polish from the pros at Essie. Can they do no wrong?

Product Feature: KEVIN.MURPHY “PLUMPING” Line

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015

Let’s discuss what no one wants to talk about: thinning hair. It’s not fun, especially for ladies, because we don’t expect it to happen to us. There are a number of causes, from stress to more serious hair loss conditions such as alopecia.

KEVIN.MURPHY‘s excellent product line has a solution for this exact situation. The Kevin.Murphy PLUMPING line has products designed to help thinning hair get back to its old self.

The set includes the Plumping Wash (shampoo), Plumping Rinse (conditioner), and Body.Mass, (leave-in treatment). Grouped together, these products not only can help those who have experienced hair loss or thinning, but can also help to plump up extra-fine hair strands in those who aren’t necessarily losing hair, but are looking for a thicker head of hair overall. Also, this line smells AMAZING.

We’ve already had several happy customers who use the Plumping line, and even a couple of our stylists use it on their own hair! If this sounds like a product that you think could help you, we’d be happy to set you up and let the Kevin.Murphy products speak for themselves!

TACO PARTY! – New Vegan Spot in Ball Square

Tuesday, September 15th, 2015

_MJPr23U                                                                         Logo: Taco Party

Just down the street from Lindsay Griffin Boston Hairstylist + CO, a delightful new taco restaurant has opened up. Formerly a food truck-only service, TACO PARTY has just opened up their first stationary location right here in Ball Square!

First of all, Taco Party is completely vegan. As a meat lover myself, I was pretty skeptical of having a taco with no chicken or steak. But to be honest, these tacos are great. The restaurant’s menu boasts some unique combinations and flavors that really challenge what you know about the taco world. Some of the menu items are gluten free as well! Aside from tacos, the Party also includes chips and a few different dips including classic guacamole and pinto bean dip. It’s completely worth it to try everything.

Also, Taco Party has vegan baked goods! There are plenty of different flavors of vegan donuts, cakes, and other tasty treats to satisfy your sweet tooth.

So when you get the craving for a delicious taco, stop in at Taco Party, grab an “Hecho en Somerville” sticker to pop on your car or laptop, and tell them the girls at Lindsay Griffin Boston sent you! Because we <3 tacos!

The Internet Loves OI!

Thursday, September 10th, 2015

One of the most popular products we sell by far here at Lindsay Griffin Boston is the OI product line from Davines. As it turns out, the people of the Internet love it too!

Check out these reviews of the OI products from real customers and your favorite beauty sources!

A customer on Birchbox posted this review after receiving a sample of the OI Conditioner in her monthly box: “I originally received this conditioner in my box but HAD TO purchase the full bottle after just one use. It makes my wavy, untameable hair so soft & manageable.”

Davines’ OI Beautifying Potion received the Best of Beauty Award from Allure in 2012, and garnered this review from the magazine: “Proof that oil needn’t equal grease, this formula softens hair and adds just a subtle hint of polish.”

Olivia Singer, writing for Into the Gloss, wrote a glowing review of the entire Davines line, and had this to say about the OI All In One Hair Milk: “Both a heat-protector and a shiny, conditioning moisturizer, it doesn’t leave me with sticky or crispy strands which are the bane of my hair-product-using life.”

For more information on the Davines OI line, stop by and ask one of our stylists for help finding the right product for you!
