Balayage

Balayage is a French word that means “to sweep.” As hairstylists, we use a sweeping motion to paint the hair. Balayage creates a sun-kissed look. Remember those natural highlights you had from the sun when you were little? We use a freehand technique to paint, creating a custom and unique color. This technique us ideal for someone looking for gradual variations and low maintenance hair color. We suggest coming in for a touch up every 3 months and glossing every 6-8 weeks.

  • How is balayage different from traditional highlighting?

While both can give your hair dimension, a balayage often provides a softer, more natural-looking effect than highlights which are more precise and structured. Advantages of a balayage include less maintenance and less noticeable root grow-out due to its freehand painting technique. Highlights follow a more traditional technique.

  • Is Balayage Suitable for All Hair Types?

Balayage complements all hair textures, from sleek straight strands to tight curls. On straight hair, fine, evenly placed highlights add dimension and movement. For wavy or curly hair, lightening inner layers enhances definition while preserving volume. A well-executed balayage maintains hair health, and proper home care keeps it strong and hydrated.

  • How should I care for my hair after getting a balayage?

Be sure to invest in hair products designed for color treated hair, including a sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo and conditioner. A weekly hydrating hair mask will also go a long way in keeping your hair healthy. Other steps you should take include protecting your hair from heat (from both the sun and hot tools) and only washing your hair 2-3 times per week.
